M. Elizabeth (Whitehead) Eldridge, 82, of 5063 Westminster Place, St. Louis, Mo., and a summer resident of Heath, Mass., died Sunday, Aug. 4, 1996, at Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield, Mass.
Mrs. Eldridge was a self-employed preservationist. For several years, she was employed as a diocesan secretary for the Episcopal Diocese in Missouri.
She was a member of the board of directors for both the Educational Center of St. Louis and Centerpoint Foundation of Nashua, and a member of the Kimmswick, Mo., and Heath, Mass., Historical Societies. Also, she was an avid photographer and preservationist.
She was a member of the Christ Church Cathedral in St. Louis.
She attended primary and secondary school in Boston, Mass., and attended Boston University.
Mrs. Eldridge was born in Boston on Sept. 12, 1913, daughter of the late Samuel and Alice G. (Sewell) Whitehead. She had been a summer resident of Heath for 50 years.
She was the widow of the Rev. Elsom Eldridge, who died in 1979. The Rev. Eldridge was rector of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Nashua from 1943 to 1955.
Survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Mark T. and Nancy Eldridge of Burlington, Vt., Elsom Jr. and Carol Ann Eldridge of Heath and Merrimack, and Steven Eldridge of New London, Conn.; and seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a niece and a nephew.
The Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home in Shelburne Falls, Mass., is in charge of arrangements.

She was a preservationist, and was the secretary to the Episcopal Diocese of Missouri for several years. Born and schooled in Boston, Mass., she summered in Heath for 50 years. She worshipped at Christ Church Cathedral, and was a director of the Educational Center of St. Louis and the Centerpoint Foundation of Nashua, N.H. She also was a member of the Kimmswick and Heath Historical Societies. Her husband, the Rev. Elsom Eldridge, died in 1979. She leaves three sons, Mark T. of Burlington, Vt., Elsom Jr. of Heath and Merrimack, N.H., and Steven of New London, Conn.; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday afternoon in the Heath Union Community Church, with burial in Center Cemetery at Heath at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours, and Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home of Shelburne Falls is in charge. Memorial contributions may be made to the Eldridge Memorial Fund, in care of the Educational Center, 6357 Clayton Road, St. Louis, 63117-1808.
